Shapes

Shape Challenge

Emojis

The word emoji literally means "picture" (e) + "character" (moji) = emojiAn emoji is a small digital image or icon used to express an idea or emotion in electronic communication.

Using the shape tools create a happy emoji and a sad emoji

in Microsoft Paint  or Shape Tool and incorporate the

Elements of Art- line, color, value, and shape.

Think about how colors convey moods and feelings:

Warm Colors (Red, OrangeYellow) convey happiness

Cool Colors (BlueGreenViolet) convey sadness

Who I Am! Self Portraits

Think about your hair color, hair style, skin color, eye color, and other distinguishing characteristics (i.e. glasses, freckles).

Use shapes to create a self portrait. In the background/negative space type your name and 10 adjectives that describe yourself (i.smart, funny, athletic)    Make A Face

OP Art- Optical Illusion Art

Optical Art (Op Art) is a mathematically-themed form of Abstract art, which uses repetition of simple forms and colors to create vibrating effects, patterns, foreground-background confusion, an exaggerated sense of depth, and other visual effects. Op Art is based on tricks of visual perception: manipulating rules of perspective to give the illusion of three-dimensional space, mixing colors to create the impression of light and shadow, and so on. With Optical Art, the rules that the viewer's eye uses to try to make sense of a visual image are themselves the "subject" of the artwork.

Create a Moving Op Art slide show
Op Art Color Families & Shapes Project:
Use the Elements of Art- Color, Value, Line, and Shape to create an Op Art picture using one of the color families: warm colors, cool colors, primary colors, or secondary colors. Students can use various values of the warm and cool colors. Completely cover the Microsoft Paint or Sketchpad "canvas" with geometric shapes layering the shapes over top of each other all over the "canvas" using the shape tools. Then use the paint bucket tool to fill in the areas created by the layering shapes.
Do not put the same color next to itself.

M.C. Escher Tessellations

Maurits Cornelis (M.C) Escher (June 17,1898 â€“ March 27,1972)

was a graphic artist born in the Netherlands who made mathematically inspired woodcutslithographs, and mezzotints. His work features mathematical objects and operations including impossible objects, explorations of infinity, reflectionsymmetryperspectivetruncated and stellated polyhedra

hyperbolic geometry, and tessellations.

A tessellation is a pattern of shapes that tiles a plane with no gaps and no overlaps. Each of the six shapes available in this Shape Tool Site are able to tessellate. That is, you can arrange multiple copies of any of the shapes to completely cover the plane or use the Polygon Tessellation Creator

Create your own tessellation pattern

...or see if you can create one of these

  • orange squares and green triangles
  • yellow hexagons and orange squares
  • red trapezoids and blue parallelograms
  • blue parallelograms and pink rhombi

Isometric Drawing Tool

Use this interactive tool to create dynamic drawings on isometric dot paper. Draw figures using edges, faces, or cubes. You can shift, rotate, color, decompose, and view in 2‑D or 3‑D. Start by clicking on the cube along the left side; then, place cubes on the grid where you would like them.

Building and Design Challenges

Test Your Architect Skills: Try to recreate the different types of 3D Block Buildings

Challenge 1: Create a house with an area of 24 cubes, and 1/2 the cubes the same color

Challenge 2: Create a bridge people can walk across using an area of 50 cubes and a height of no less than 3 cubes.

Alliteration Project

Alphabet Alliteration Books 5th-8th Grade

  • Assign a letter to each student  (Alphabet Sign-up Sheet)
  • Create a picture in Sketchpad
  • Complete Alphabet Alliteration Plan Sheet- Write an alliteration sentence using your letter, and plan out how to illustrate your sentence by drawing the objects in your sentence and choosing a background.
  • On the back of the paper draw 5 other objects that start with your letter and label them.
  • Draw or type your letter in Uppercase and Lowercase (Bb)
  • Create an Alliteration sentence using your letter
  • (Big beautiful blue butterflies bounce by the beach)
  • Illustrate your alliteration sentence by drawing objects that start with your letter and by adding images from the Internet that start with your letter (blue butterflies, beach)
  • Add other objects that start with your letter into the picture, 10 objects all together
  • (baseball, bat, baseketball, bumblebee, bee hive, bear, bow tie, Batman, bird, bike)
  • Alliteration Sentence Breakdown WS - Complete the worksheet on your alliteration sentence

We will put all the students' Alphabet Alliteration pictures together to create a Class Book and they will present and read their class books to the kindergarten and 1st grade students.

Create Your Own Lego Super Hero

Design your own Super Hero using Microsoft Paint or Sketchpad

Paste or Import the Lego Person Template for your Super Hero's body and design their super hero costume.

What colors are their costume?

Do they have a cape?

Do they wear a face mask or an eye mask

Do they wear a hat?

Do they carry an item?

What is your Super Hero's name?

                                              Super Hero Emblem

Create a logo for your Super Hero using the various shapes to create several designs of logos and color schemes for your hero.

Ask the students around you for their input in picking the best logo.

What kind of super powers do they have?

Will you use a letter, number, or symbol in the logo?

What colors will it be and do the colors match their costume?

Is their logo on the front of their costume, on their cape, on a shield?

Pick your favorite Super Hero Emblem design and copy it into your Super Hero Microsoft Paint or Sketchpad project.

Clik SELECT and draw a box around the emblem, then click COPY, next open your Super Hero project, and hit PASTE, move your emblem beside your Super Hero. You can hit COPY again to get more emblems to use in your Super Hero's costume or on their cape.
