Painting the SOAR mural with

French Run Elementary students

Hello, my name is Kat Jarvis-Nivens and this is my third year with Educational Solutions. I am very excited to be working with the Educational Solutions family of schools in the new title of STEM Lead Instructor. I will be helping to faciliate a new "Real World Learning through STEM" initiative at Cesar Chavez College Preparatory, Educational Academy for Boys and Girls, and Midnimo Cross Cultural Middle School. I am thrilled to be at all three schools this year and to implement our new project based learning STEM class.

Before coming to Educational Solutions, I worked for two years as the Design & Technology Instructor, Character Education Coordinator, and School Webmaster for Imagine Harrisburg Pike Community School in Columbus. For a year and a half, I was a Design & Technology and Computer teacher, Fitness instructor, and After-School Sports Coordinator at French Run Elementary in Reynoldsburg. I started the first four years of my teaching career as an Art & Art History teacher at Columbus Arts & Technology Academy.

I graduated Suma Cum Laude in 2005 from The University of Findlay. I was an Honors Scholar majoring in Multi-Age Visual Art Education, Children's Book Illustration, and Studio Art.

I also played soccer at The University of Findlay, where I met my amazing husband Drew, who played on the men's soccer team at Findlay.

When I am not in the classroom enriching children's minds educationally and socially, I am devoted to developing the lives of children on the sports field by teaching life lessons and building  positive character values through sports. I have been a Sports Director and Coach for twelve years with Skyhawks Sports Academy coaching a variety of different sports: soccer, basketball, baseball, T-ball, golf, flag football, cheerleading, volleyball, and tennis.

I am the Soccer Coordinator and Soccer Coach for i9 Sports in Pickerington, Hillard, and Lewis Center. I also coach Lacrosse for i9 in Powell and Westerville. In additon, I helped to start a new i9 Volleyball program in Powell which I coach. I was also the i9 Site Manager for Gahanna Basketball and Arena Football in Delaware

I also coached softball for Reynoldsburg as the Head Junior High Coach, U18 Indoor Softball Coach, and U15 Summer Softball Coach

French Run Elementary

I was very excited to be a part of introducing the new mascot Felix the Firebird to French Run Elementary in Reynoldsburg. We painted two Felix the Firebird SOAR logo murals on the walls at French Run. The first mural is in the front hallway by the entrance, introducing our mascot to the visitors of French Run. Our 2013-2014 2nd and 3rd grade students helped paint this mural. The second Felix the Firebird is a "legacy mural", located in the 4th grade hallway and was painted by the 2013-2014 4th grade students. Each year the 4th grade students will get to add their hand prints to Felix's tail, leaving their mark on French Run and growing the mural throughout the years. Both murals are something our students took pride in being a part of and will remind our students to always SOAR through the halls.
