Driver

  1. Write the code according to the navigator's specification
  2. Listen intently to the navigators instructions
  3. Ask questions wherever there is a lack of clarity
  4. Offer alternative solutions if you disagree with the navigator
  5. Where there is disagreement, defer to the navigator. If their idea fails, get to failure
  6. Make sure code is clean
  7. Uses the computer, keyboard , and mouse
  8. Ignore larger issues and focus on the task at hand
  9. Trust the navigator - ultimately the navigator has the final say in what is written
  10. You are writing the code

Navigator

  • Dictates the code that is to be written - the 'what'
  • Clearly communicates what code to write
  • Explains 'why' they have chosen the particular solution to this problem
  • Check for syntax / type errors as the Driver drives
  • Be the safety net for the driver
  • Make sure that the driver sticks to the small task at hand
  • Outline and note down high level tasks / issues
  • Ongoing code review
  • Pay attention
  • Wait until the task is complete to bring up design / refactoring

Op Art

Optical Art (Op Art) is a mathematically-themed form of Abstract art, which uses repetition of simple forms and colors to create vibrating effects, patterns, foreground-background confusion, an exaggerated sense of depth, and other visual effects. Op Art is based on tricks of visual perception: manipulating rules of perspective to give the illusion of three-dimensional space, mixing colors to create the impression of light and shadow, and so on. With Optical Art, the rules that the viewer's eye uses to try to make sense of a visual image are themselves the "subject" of the artwork.

Op Art Color Families Project:
Use the Elements of Art- Color, Value, Line, and Shape to create a Op Art picture using one of the color families, warm colors, cool colors, primary colors, or secondary colors. Students can use values of the warm and cool colors. Completely cover the Paint "canvas" with geometric shapes layering the shapes over top of each other all over the "canvas" using the shape tool. Then use the paint bucket tool to fill in the areas created by the layering shapes. Do not put the same color next to itself.

Emojis

The word emoji literally means "picture" (e) + "character" (moji) = emoji An emoji is a small digital image or icon used to express an idea or emotion in electronic communication.

Sketchpad (drawing tool)

Create an emoji of you and/or your mood in Sketchpad and incorporate the Elements of Art- line, color, value, and shape.

Think about how colors convey mood and feelings:

Warm Colors (Red, Orange, Yellow) convey happiness

Cool Colors (Blue, Green, Violet) convey sadness

Rangoli is an art form from India in which patterns are created on the floor in living rooms or courtyards using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals.  Rangolis are usually made during Indian festivals such as Diwalli and contain repeating patterns.

M.C. Escher Tessellations and Patterns

Maurits Cornelis (M.C) Escher (June 17,1898 â€“ March 27,1972)

was a graphic artist born in the Netherlands who made mathematically inspired woodcutslithographs, and mezzotints. His work features mathematical objects and operations including impossible objects, explorations of infinity, reflection, symmetryperspective, truncated and stellated polyhedra

hyperbolic geometry, and tessellations.

A tessellation is a pattern of shapes that tiles a plane with no gaps and no overlaps. Each of the six shapes available in this Shape Tool Site are able to tessellate. That is, you can arrange multiple copies of any of the shapes to completely cover the plane.

Create Your Own Lego Super Hero

Design your own Super Hero using Microsoft Paint or Sketchpad

Paste or Import the Lego Person Template for your Super Hero's body and design their super hero costume.

What colors are their costume?

Do they have a cape?

Do they wear a face mask or an eye mask

Do they wear a hat?

Do they carry an item?

What is your Super Hero's name?

                                              Super Hero Emblem

Create a logo for your Super Hero using the various shapes to create several designs of logos and color schemes for your hero.

Ask the students around you for their input in picking the best logo.

What kind of super powers do they have?

Will you use a letter, number, or symbol in the logo?

What colors will it be and do the colors match their costume?

Is their logo on the front of their costume, on their cape, on a shield?

Pick your favorite Super Hero Emblem design and copy it into your Super Hero Microsoft Paint or Sketchpad project.

Clik SELECT and draw a box around the emblem, then click COPY, next open your Super Hero project, and hit PASTE, move your emblem beside your Super Hero. You can hit COPY again to get more emblems to use in your Super Hero's costume or on their cape.
